We are so excited!

MacIntyre is proud of the way that you have taken up the challenge of the ‘Great Interactions’ idea. Because of your efforts, we have a fantastic story to tell about how improving the day-to-day interactions between MacIntyre staff and the people we are supporting is making a real difference.

To celebrate the achievements you have all been part of, a book has been written that captures the journey so far. Your copy will be with you very soon and we hope you will enjoy reading about how Great Interactions is changing the way we work. We also hope you will let us know what you think.

If you have any comments or questions about Great Interactions, or you want to share your own stories, you can e-mail the team great.interactions@macintyrecharity.org

Great Interactions Fund - Gt Holm Drama Group

Last year the Great Holm Drama group began working on a circus project. The Great Interactions Fund enabled the group to use the skills of a professional circus performer to develop the work they had already been doing.

This opportunity enhanced the work that staff were doing around interaction, communication and development both with individuals and the group as a whole. It has been fantastic to watch the learners develop in confidence and team work. Everyone has contributed to the project in some way and communicated their own ideas, needs and wishes. What’s more, all involved have been able to use the skills they have learnt in other areas of their lives.

During the summer the group presented a circus show at the Midsummer Fayre in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes. This was a fantastic opportunity for the group to perform to members of the public alongside professional performers. The show was the culmination of many months of dedicated work by the group and staff.

The final show was also performed at Great Holm as an example of best practice, and after the performance there were many discussions amongst colleagues around Great Interactions and Facilitation skills.

The project provided an excellent opportunity for the people we support to share their enthusiasm and hard work with their friends and for staff to develop their interaction skills.

Above all, everyone had fun!

At the moment we are working very hard on a resource to help everybody to learn sign language. The video below is a sneak peek at what the final resource will look like:

We are hoping to finish and send out the finished Signing DVD in the near future, so watch this space for updates of how we are getting on.
